SEVERE IODINE DEFICIENCY

Severe iodine deficiency
 Shortage (deficiency) is a condition in which iodine insufficiency of iodine intake from food substances.Iodine is a necessary mineral substances which the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormone. The effects of iodine deficiency with iodine deficiency disorders (iodine deficiency disorder / IDD).  
The signs are:
 - Mumps (in children and adults)

- The development of mental functions are impaired in children and adults are accompanied by decreasing levels of thyroid hormone (thyroxine) in the blood.

- Retardation (setbacks / delays) and mental growth, deaf-mute and nerve disorders and muscle (neuromuscular disorders).

- Heightened risk of abortion, miscarriage and infant mortality.

Iodine deficiency during childhood would disrupt the ability of children at school and can cause low IQ. Iodine deficiency in children is usually caused:
 - Low learning ability and lack of mental alertness.

- Mentally slower and less productive at work

- Is generally difficult to be motivated as education.

Prevention:
 - Iodine-rich foods every day. Source of iodine is seafood such as fish, shrimp, squid, mussels, crabs, grass green, etc..

- Use of iodized salt during cooking or as a seasoning.

- Consume foods that have added iodine.
